The sweetest picks of the month, freshly cut and served up for your listening pleasure. Sit back and savor.
1. ASVAJIT – RUSTLE DUB EP
Asvajit from Sri Lanka is notoriously deep and dub-y, a perfect release for the summer. Both tracks have an impressive groove and progression, besides that, Tex Ture from Portugal remixes Rustle Dub, the result; a massive bomb for the dancefloor. Kon Up and Krugel are in charge of the last Remix, a more technoid, minimal and solid interpretation of ‘Keratosa’.
2. KALI G – EQUINOX EP
Belonging to the mystical by-lanes of Morocco, KALI G, a DJ and producer of much local renown as well as a history in the clubs of Ibiza and Spain (where he was a resident of Catedral Club Sevilla) has joined Wind Horse for an impressive three track release. The Equinox EP confidently displays his tight deep house sound, sprinkled with what Kali G calls ‘spiritual waves’ and the occasional sample from traditional Moroccan music.
Genre: Deep House
Label: Wind Horse Records
3. MONOPHONIK – HIBERNATE EP
Hibernate is a result of exploring the world of Eurorack, and capturing the potential of modular synthesizers. Each sound on this EP has been handcrafted from a single sine wave, bringing a unique texture to the sound of Hibernate.
4. JAY PEI – WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD EP
Another slick deep house delivery from Jay Pei. Influenced by jazz and funk music, he is a prolific and somewhat enigmatic artist. Mangaka and Lucas Keizer are on remix duties this time giving an interesting spin to the title track.
Genre – Deep House
Label – Lisztomania Records
Release – 30/07/16
5. THE SOUL BROTHERS + TROJA – TALAVERA RECORDS VOL. 7
This has got to be the discovery of the month for us. With deep, brooding melodies offset by tribal beats and a sprinkling of moody vocal samples, this EP has got an unmistakably eastern ethnic flavor. We’re keeping our ears out for these guys and so should you.
Genre: Deep House / World
Label: Talavera Records
